Three floors of new, used, and rare books in a converted Thames-side warehouse. Open every day.
Plan Your VisitCanary Quay Bookroom occupies a Grade II listed warehouse on the Isle of Dogs, just east of where the old merchant ships used to dock. The building spent a century storing tea and tobacco before we filled it with something better.
Since 2016, we've been three floors of carefully curated fiction, history, art, children's books, and a growing rare books collection on the top floor where the old loading doors still open onto the river.
There's a reading room on the ground floor with leather chairs and bad lighting on purpose. A coffee counter that knows the difference between a flat white and a cortado. And a cat named Barge who patrols the history section.
New fiction, poetry, essays, and staff picks. The coffee counter lives here, alongside the leather chairs and the good light from the wharf-side windows.
History, biography, travel, politics, science, and nature writing. Named for the framed Ordnance Survey maps that line the stairwell on the way up.
Rare and antiquarian books, signed first editions, and our children's corner tucked under the eaves. The old loading doors open onto a view of the Thames on warm days.
We don't shelve by bestseller rank. We shelve by whether the book is any good.
Reading and conversation about memory, displacement, and the spaces we carry with us. Signed copies available.
Storytime for ages 3–7 on the wharf-side terrace (weather permitting, Reading Room if not). This month: stories about rivers.
We're reading Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. Wine and strong opinions. New members always welcome.
The Loft opens its cabinets. Browse first editions, antique maps, and curiosities from the private collection. Free entry.
